Document Description
The project involves installation of native plant landscaping in an expanded student loading and unloading zone and new parking lot areas. The RCD is assisting in native plant selection for the new landscaping areas, with input and installation assistance from the community, but is not involved in the construction portion of this project. The Yolo County RCD conducted a biological review, which determined that the site is located within the range for the western bumblebee (Bombus occidentalis). Numerous other species are documented within close proximity to the site, but will not be negatively impacted by the project as it will involve minimal ground disturbance. Native trees and plants will be installed by hand using shovels to dig the holes for planting. Implementation of this hedgerow is expected to occur during the fall or winter season and will not impact special status plants or wildlife. The goal of the project is to create landscaping that also serves as beneficial h9bitat for native species of wildlife and pollinators by providing floral resources, forage, and shelter in an urban area surrounded by agricultural land.
