Document Description
Sacramento County Regional Parks will expand the existing sensory trail play system in Gibson Ranch Regional Park. The construction area is approximately 0.75 acre and includes a new concrete looping pathway, a sundial constructed of pavers, new specialized equipment, and rubber safety surfacing. New landscaping will be installed along the pathway to contribute to the sensory experience. Minor excavation (approximately six inches in depth) and grading will be required to ensure the concrete path and safety surface meet state and federal accessibility standards. Construction of the project will not require the removal of vegetation, including trees.

Reasons for Exemption
Class 3 consists of construction and location of limited numbers of new, small facilities and structures. And Class 4 consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees. Subsection (a) includes grading on land with a slope of less than 10 percent, except in areas designated as wetland or waters, scenic, or mapped as a severe geologic hazard. Implementation of the project will include minor grading and excavation for the concrete pathway and safety surfacing, installation of play equipment along the pathway, and new landscaping. The project area does not contain waters or wetlands, is not in a designated scenic area, and is not mapped as a severe geologic hazard. Therefore, the project is exempt from the provisions of CEQA.
