Document Description
Project Location:
Near the intersection of West Main Street and Ventura Avenue. See attached Vicinity Map.
Project Justification:
There is currently poor storm drainage in the Boggs Tract area, and the roadways will flood in heavy rains. The existing retention pond was constructed as a temporary solution to collect stormwater runoff. This project will expand the existing pond to collect much more runoff.
Scope of Work:
The project will consist of:
1. Expanding an existing retention pond on Port of Stockton owned parcels on Ventura Avenue in Boggs Tract.
2. Executing an agreement with the Port of Stockton for use of the property.
3. Obtaining an Encroachment permit and Grading & Erosion Control permit from the City of Stockton by the Contractor.
Environmental Setting:
In these portions of the San Joaquin County, land usage is mixed between residential and industrial.
There are many large trees adjacent to the project area. Nesting and migratory birds, protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, may nest within these trees. Furthermore, the Swainson’s Hawk, a raptor species of concern within the State of California and listed as threatened may nest adjacent to or within the project area. A pre-construction survey for nesting Swainson’s Hawks and other migratory birds is recommended if construction is scheduled to occur from February 15th to September 1st.
Beneficiaries:
The public will see increased safety and fewer hazards with this expansion of an existing retention pond. Overall, there will be reduced maintenance concerns and more reliability within the project area.
