Document Description
The proposed Project consists of the one-time clean out of Reach 123 to restore it to its as-built condition. The proposed Project footprint is approximately 10.86 acres and will consist of sediment and vegetation removal and potential minor repair to the side levees and storm drain outlets. The proposed Project would be conducted in one phase that is expected to begin Fall 2025 and last approximately four (4) months. The proposed Project objectives include removal of vegetation, debris, excess sediment and grading to achieve designed drainage standards. Construction equipment proposed to be used during the proposed Project include 21 off-highway trucks, 2 rubber-tired dozers, 3 tractor/loader/backhoes, 3 excavators, and 3 portable toilets with a hand wash station. Approximately 37,560 cubic yards (CY) of material would be cut, and approximately 1,444 CY of material would be backfilled, resulting in a net cut of approximately 36,166 CY of material. The debris and vegetation material removed would be disposed of approximately 8.5 miles away at the Chiquita Canyon Landfill in the City of Santa Clarita, and the excess sediment material cut would be hauled to the May Sediment Placement Site in the City of Sylmar approximately 18 miles south of the proposed Project. The Channel may require repairs to the concrete slopes and will be determined once the sediment and vegetation are removed and the slopes become fully visible for inspection. Onsite proposed Project activities would occur from 7:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday (Saturdays as needed) with a total of 36 construction workers and a maximum of 150 construction trips per day. Ingress, egress, and staging areas would be located on the existing access roads on both sides of the Channel’s banks along the entire proposed Project footprint.
