Document Description
The project proposes the replacement of the existing undersized and failing leach field for Comfort Station #1 in McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park to meet the current and future increased visitor demand and to eliminate excessive maintenance that renders the comfort station unusable. The existing leach field will be abandoned in place and a new leach field will be installed to meet the increase in use. Work will: Remove up to twenty (20) trees; Remove the existing 1,500-gallon septic tank and, in same location excavate to install a new 8,000gallon fiberglass septic tank; In the area of the abandoned lines, excavate approx. 8 ft wide x 21 ft long x 7 ft deep and install a new 3,000-gallon concrete dosing chamber & effluent pumping tank; Excavate an approx. 18-inch wide by 3-foot-deep x 140 ft long trench to install 2-in. sch 80 force main piping from the new dosing chamber tank to the new leach field located on the opposite and east side of the asphalt parking lot; Install new 2-in. electrical conduit between the comfort station panel and new dosing chamber; and Excavate an 18-in. wide by 3 ft. deep x 95 ft. long trench and install 2-in. electrical conduit from an existing electrical pull box (at the west end of the comfort station) to the new dosing chamber. For the new leach field on the east side of the parking lot in an area approx.106-feet-long x 102-feet-wide: Remove up to twenty (20) trees; Excavate eight (8) 8.5 ft wide x 4.5 ft deep x 106 ft long trenches, separated by approx. 5 ft.; Lay down 2-inches of sand and install two (2) leaching modules per trench; Cover modules with geotextile fabric; and Use excavated soils to backfill over modules per specifications. Trenching between the comfort station and new leach field will require excavating in the existing parking lot and new asphalt paving will be required for repair.
