Document Description
The project proposes to renovate the Putah Creek Lodge, an existing building located at 685 Putah Creek Lodge Drive, Davis, CA 95616 on UC Davis Campus. The building is a 3,405 square feet, one-story building and consists of a main assembly room space, an office, a storage room, an equipment room, a multi fixture men’s and women’s restrooms, a vestibule that leads from the lounge to the two restrooms, and outdoor amenities that include a large built-in barbecue, a shaded picnic area, and an amphitheater with bench seating surrounding a fire pit. The project corrects and upgrades seismic retrofits to achieve an acceptable seismic performance level of IV. The project also provides upgrades to the bathrooms, office, and food preparation areas, as well as repairs dry rot, HVAC, flooring, and roofing. The project scope also includes paint, installation of new cabinetry and doors, and upgrades to accessibility features. The renovation will not cause any changes to existing building function, use or occupancy. The footprint is also not being increased. Minimal site work is proposed as part of the project and includes paving improvements for portions of the path of travel from the south end of the bridge to the building and at various doorways and entrances, as well as site drainage improvements and some trenching and patching for a new conduit and electrical service to the lodge from the transformer yard.

Reasons for Exemption
This project qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 1 of the Guidelines for the Implementation to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This exemption applies to the operation, repair, maintenance or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities or mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of the existing use. The proposed project would provide interior renovations to an existing building, with minimal modifications to the exterior to improve the path of travel and drainage conditions. In addition, none of the other exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project.
