Document Description
This Project will conduct geotechnical and geophysical investigations to support seismic assessments and retrofit of sixteen (16) water storage tanks. The Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water) owns, operates, and maintains an aqueduct distribution system that includes eighteen (18) water storage tanks. Sonoma Water has identified the need for a comprehensive geotechnical study of sixteen (16) water tanks to support the planning, budgeting, and design of seismic retrofits, and requires geotechnical engineering services to assist with data review, investigations, and related services for the Project. Geotechnical investigations will include up to four (4) borings per tank ranging in depth from fifteen (15) to twenty-five (25) feet and will be located around the immediate perimeter of the existing tank sites on previously developed and disturbed land. Surface-based geophysical investigations will include a one-dimensional multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW) to measure compression and shear wave velocities of soil and bedrock. The beneficiaries of the geotechnical and geophysical investigations include Sonoma Water, which gains crucial data to inform safe and reliable seismic retrofit designs for water tanks; local communities, who benefit from improved water system safety and reliability; and engineers and designers, who receive detailed geotechnical data to guide accurate and safe designs.
