Document Description
The Head House 50 Repair Restoration Project will repair fire damage to a small plant research building in South Campus. The project will restore the building back to its original use in a ‘like for like’ manner. The project scope includes demolition and debris removal; smoke and soot cleaning; structural repairs; and insulation and drywall repairs. Code upgrades to the site include accessibility parking and pathways, eye wash, safety shower, and fire alarm system. Flooring and interior finishes will also be replaced and repaired.

Reasons for Exemption
The repair and replacement of an existing structure qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 1 of the Guidelines for the Implementation of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This exemption applies to the repair of existing public or private structures, and restoration and rehabilitation of damaged structures involving negligible or no expansion of an existing use. On a separate and independent basis, the project also qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 2. This exemption applies to the replacement or reconstruction of buildings as their existing location with the same size and purpose as the original building. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project.
