Document Description
Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA) is transitioning its bus fleet from diesel and gasoline to hydrogen fuel to comply with the Innovative Clean Transit Regulation established by the California Air Resources Board in December 2018. To support this switch, HTA proposes to construct a hydrogen fueling station at its existing Operations and Maintenance Facility (Facility or Project Site). The proposed project includes installation of a liquid hydrogen storage tank and compression gas system capable of providing hydrogen fuel to various types of vehicles at different fueling pressures. The project also involves demolition of an existing office building located at the Project Site, use of a temporary hydrogen fueling station during construction, construction of a permanent storage and fueling system, retrofit of the existing fleet maintenance
bays, and construction of a building addition to the existing administration and maintenance building. The fueling system will also be available to the public. In accordance with CEQA Guidelines Section 15072(g)(5), it is noted that the Project Site previously contained a leaking underground storage tank, which has since been fully remediated to the satisfaction of the appropriate regulatory agencies.
