Document Description
The purpose of this project is to repair an embankment failure and reconstruct the roadway to restore two-way traffic to a stretch of Norris Canyon Road that was damaged during the 2023 winter storm events. The road is currently limited to one lane for travel. The embankment will be repaired by constructing a soldier pile wall and reconstructing a storm drain culvert. The soldier pile wall will be approximately 278-feet long. The piles for the retaining wall will be set via drilling. No pile driving will occur. The anticipated excavation depth is approximately 26 feet for the piles and approximately 4 feet at the base of the retaining wall where the lagging will be installed. A guard rail will be installed. Drainage improvements include approximately 300 LF of 18-inch reinforced concrete pipe, 18-inch concrete flared ends, four inlets, and rock slope protection. The roadway thermoplastic striping will conform with the existing striping. Equipment staging will likely occur adjacent to the slide as the road will be closed throughout construction, and a detour via Crow Canyon Road and Bollinger Canyon Road will be utilized. Appropriate Best Management Practices (BMPs) including but not limited to erosion control such as fiber rolls, and hydroseeding temporarily disturbed areas will be implemented during construction. Regulatory permits will be obtained before construction. Approximately 34 trees will be removed and approximately 14 trees will need to be trimmed. Real property transactions, including right-of-way acquisition, will be necessary in support of this project. Utility relocations may be needed. The project is anticipated to start in the summer of 2026 and take approximately 55 days to complete. Traffic control signs will be placed before and during construction. No night or weekend work is anticipated.
