Document Description
The Contra Costa County Public Works
Department (County) proposes to remove sub-standard Metal Beam Guardrails (MBGR) and end treatments
and replace them with the current Caltrans standard Midwest Guardrail System (MGS) guardrails and end
treatments at the locations identified above. Approximately 52 existing guardrails will be upgraded, and one new
guardrail will be installed. The construction process will include removal and replacement of the existing
guardrails, end treatments and associated posts, and relocation of several guardrail posts near end treatments
with grading as needed. Ground disturbance and excavations up to eight feet are anticipated. Approximately
four trees may be removed, and vegetation and tree trimming may be necessary. All applicable regulatory
permits will be obtained before construction. Real Property transactions and utility relocations may be necessary.
Construction is currently anticipated to occur in summer 2026 and will take approximately two months to
complete. Temporary traffic controls will be implemented during construction activities and may include short duration
lane closures, including one-way traffic control, resulting in short traffic delays. Emergency vehicles will
have access at all times. Appropriate best management practices, including but not limited to measures for
stormwater control (e.g., storm drain inlet protection) will be implemented during construction.
