Document Description
The proposed project includes improvements to the City of Mt. Shasta (City) water system. The purpose of the project is to eliminate existing pressure deficiencies in the Big Lakes area of the City, improve fire flows, increase City-wide storage, and provide water supply reliability and resilience.
Improvements include installing two ~55-foot-diameter water tanks near the southeastern base of Spring Hill and installing a new waterline, storm drain, and underground electrical conduit from the tanks south to Ski Village Dr.; the waterline would continue west in Ski Village Dr. to North Mt. Shasta Blvd. A new well would be constructed on the east side of Spring Hill Rd. (northwest of Spring Hill). A waterline would be installed along Spring Hill Rd. and North Mt. Shasta Blvd. from the new well to the intersection of Ski Village Dr. and North Mt. Shasta Blvd. Electrical conduit would be installed underground from the new well to Spring Hill Rd., continuing north in the ROW of Spring Hill Rd. for ~1,900 feet. Alternatively, the City considered potentially obtaining an existing production well (DEX-6) once used by the Dannon bottling plant. With this alternative, ~500 feet of new water line would be installed from DEX-6 to the new water tanks. Although there are no immediate plans for the City to acquire use of DEX-6, this alternative is also addressed in the IS/MND in the event that the City acquires the well in the future. If the City acquires DEX-6 prior to installation of the Spring Hill Well, there would be no need to install the Spring Hill Well at this time.
