Document Description
Caltrans proposes to rehabilitate an existing 66" Corrugated Steel Pipe (CSP) at PM 29.5 on Rte. 15 in Riverside County. The purpose of the project is to take preventative maintenance actions to delay or prevent culvert deterioration. The type of rehab will be concrete invert lining. The construction work will be performed from the inlet on De Palma Rd, and all equipment, and vehicles will be parked on the shoulder. Vehicles/equipment will not be traveling to and from the culvert work area. About 6 ft wide walkway for the construction crew to access the work site is needed, and to establish the walkway, plants and bushes will be cut to keep the roots in the soil and there will be minor clearing and grubbing located in front of the inlet and outlet for Fire Prevention of Welding Operation. The construction will take place in summer where no water expected to be flowing through the culverts, otherwise the water flow will be diverted. In case of rainfall, the work will be delayed. Before the construction starts, the inside of the culverts will be cleaned using high pressure wash, and BMP (fiber rolls or sandbags) will be applied at the outlets to stop the debris. Concrete will be pumped to the inside of the culvert using a hose which will be extended from the inlet all the way to the outlet, then the concrete invert lining process will start from the outlet going back to the inlet. No excavation is required for this process, but sediment removal at the outlet is needed. The work will be done within Caltrans Right of Way.
