Document Description
The County of Riverside Transportation Department proposes to install a concrete sidewalk on the north side of Murrieta Hot Springs Rd starting at 400’ east of centerline of Chandler Dr to 470’ west of~said centerline in the unincorporated Murrieta area of Riverside County. This will include excavation of the existing dirt sidewalk to 1.25’, compaction of the natural soil, placing 6” of Class II aggregate base, 4” concrete sidewalk, and minor grading if needed. The project work is within the road right-of-way including street, sidewalk, and parkway areas.
Murrieta Hot Springs Rd is a 4-lane secondary road that travels in the East-West direction. Existing pavement width is approximately 84’ wide with 8’ dirt sidewalk with curb and gutter within the project area.

Reasons for Exemption
The County of Riverside Transportation Department has found that the above-described project is exempt from the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), based on the following:
Section 15301 (c) – Existing Facilities – The proposed project to construct a new
sidewalk is consistent with Categorical Exemption 15301(c) which exempts existing
highways and streets, sidewalks, gutters, bicycle and pedestrian trail, and similar facilities (this includes road grading for the purpose of public safety). Furthermore, it does not create additional traffic lanes and involves no expansion of use of the existing roadway and associated facilities.
