Document Description
DWR proposes to install stream gages on one private, one pedestrian, two State, and one county bridge. USGS will install the gages and DWR will operate and maintain them. The equipment, which consists of a stage sensor, antenna, solar panel, battery, cables, wire-weight reference gage, and NEMA box, would be mounted to bridge by bracing onto the existing guard rail or bolting it to the bridge deck. A water temperature sensor would be placed streamside near the underside of the bridge and connected to the mounted equipment via cable enclosed in steel conduit.

Notice of Exemption
Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Section 15304 and Section 15306
Reasons for Exemption
Project involves the installation of stream gage equipment to existing bridge structures for the purpose of scientific data collection and would result in temporary, minor increases in noise and vibration levels. At Salinas River, minimal excavation would occur in association with the placement of a small concrete pad (3 ft x 3 ft) for the off-bridge pole-mounted equipment shelter. A small amount of excavation may also be required for shallow burial of electrical conduit for the water temperature sensor between the river and the equipment shelter. The effects on the environment would be negligible.
