Document Description
Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park and Open Space Preserve Expansion is a 1,517-acre property located near the towns of Monte Rio and Occidental, CA. The goal of the project is to reduce fire hazard in the wildland-urban interface and maintain the ecological condition of forestlands by thinning woody material and by using prescribed fire to reduce fuel loads. Scope of work consists of fuel reduction and implementation of prescribed fire, including pile and broadcast burning of woody vegetation. Burns will occur during appropriate weather conditions and in accordance with an approved smoke management plan and may include re-burning all or part of burn units. Control lines will use a combination of existing road, trails, and handline. Burns will be conducted using hand ignition and other standard prescribed fire methods. If work takes place within bird nesting season, surveys will be conducted to identify sensitive areas. Ground disturbance will be minimal and limited to areas determined to have no impact to sensitive resources such as cultural resources and/or special status species.
