Document Description
Black Rock Cattle Co. LLC has applied for a Conditional Use Permit to continue the use of a feedlot on the existing Hillside Dairy site. The dairy was originally constructed in 1988 and then leased as a feedlot starting in 2020. The previous dairy had received coverage under the Dairy General Order and was approved for 850 mature milking cows (Holstein); which equates to 1,368 Animal Units (AU). Feedlot cattle are smaller than dairy cattle, and according to the Bovine General Order, the RWQCB- allowed animal unit conversion for calves is smaller at .35 (as opposed to 1.4 for mature milking cows), resulting in the allowable number of feedlot cattle onsite to be 3,910 head. Conditional Use Permit 2024-002 proposes to continue the operation of the site as a feedlot under lease to Black Rock Cattle, LLC. Cattle will arrive at the site at an average weight of 350 pounds and leave at a weight of approximately 650 pounds. Individual cattle will be onsite for approximately 60 to 90 days. The facility is proposed to operate seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No new structures are being proposed.
