Document Description
The proposed project would include the demolition of eleven structures, University Center buildings 104-112, 214 and 215, totaling approximately 22,500 gross square feet, and the adjacent surface parking lot. These mostly one-story buildings, ranging in age from 53 to 70 years old, have been deteriorating, require extensive ongoing and costly maintenance, and no longer serve the functional needs of the campus. In addition, if they remain, some would require seismic improvements per the UC Seismic Safety Policy. Most of the occupants of these buildings would be relocated to the future Triton Center, a separately approved project that is currently in construction. The approximately 2.0-acre site would be restored with softscape to create a passive open space area. The proposed project scope would remove some existing landscaping but would preserve as much as possible, including preservation of the existing Metrosideros tree (New Zealand Christmas tree).
