Document Description
As part of the California Stream Gage Improvement Program, the California Department of Water Resources has executed a contract with the Omochumne-Hartnell Water District to install a stream gage on Deer Creek downstream of the Old Vine Drive bridge crossing and repair and upgrade two existing stream gages on the Consumnes River located at the Rooney and Mahon flashboard dam sites. The proposed stream gage installation and upgrades will monitor water levels and streamflow to inform groundwater management and improve the understanding of conditions when groundwater recharge can be performed.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed stream gage installation and upgrades would be installed at two existing stations and one new location to provide real-time data and monitor hydrologic conditions. The streamflow data will improve the understanding of groundwater-surface water interaction and availability of streamflow to inform management to help protect beneficial users such as fish and wildlife. Proposed activities qualify for categorical exemptions 15301 (Existing Facilities), 15302 (Replacement or Reconstruction), and 15306 (Information Collection). Proposed activities will take place within previously disturbed areas with a minimal footprint and will not result in a significant impact to the environment and none of the exceptions described in CEQA Guidelines Section 15300.2 apply.
