Document Description
The Project involves the removal and demolition of the four radial gates at the Check 17 structure of the California Aqueduct. Work will include the installation and use of temporary construction platforms and the use of cutting torches. A crane, to be stabilized with blocks, will be used to lift freed material out of the canal structure. Portions of the 4-way linkage parts from the gates will be removed for future use by the DWR. The remaining parts would be placed in containers for removal from the Project site.

Based on review of the CEQA guidelines and project-specific information it was determined that this Project is categorically exempt from CEQA pursuant to CEQA Class 1, Existing Facilities (Section 15301), as the action consists of repair and minor alterations to a public structure and will have no expansion of existing or former use. The project involves the removal of four radial gates from the check structure and will not result in significant effect on the environment. The exceptions to Class 1 categorical exemptions (CEQA Section 15300.2) do not apply to this Project.
