Document Description
The proposed project involves exploratory geotechnical borings to inform the engineering design of the City’s Water Storage Reservoir Project. The borings would be conducted at various locations throughout the project site, including the proposed trailhead parking area, water storage reservoir area, pipeline alignment, and caretaker’s unit and storage building. Bore depths would range from 5 to 50 feet and would be up to 4.25 inches in diameter. All bore holes would be backfilled with grout and capped with native soil in accordance with California Well Standards. The project would use a low ground pressure track-mounted drill rig, and access would be provided via existing dirt roads, with minimal vegetation trimming and no grading required. All boring locations would be sited in previously disturbed areas. Prior to drilling, a qualified biologist would conduct a nesting bird survey and flag sensitive plant species for avoidance. The project would be designed to avoid sensitive natural resources, including Mendocino cypress forest, and would not result in a serious or major disturbance to the environment. The data collected would support the planning and design of future water infrastructure improvements that would benefit the City of Fort Bragg and its residents by enhancing water storage capacity and reliability.
