Document Description
The purpose of this project is to replace 9.5 miles of fiber optic cable in an existing 12-inch steel pipeline that runs north to south in the center of Hungry Valley SVRA.
Vast Networks (VN) will replace the existing fiber optic cable in an existing pipeline that runs through the center of Hungry Valley SVRA. VN will excavate 3 existing vault locations to remove and re-install cable, as well as approximately 25 assist sites along the pipeline to help feed and pull the fiber cable through the pipeline. The three vaults are buried at depths of 18 to 36 inches, and assist sites require an excavation footprint of 24 inches wide x 48 inches long x 36 inches deep. VN will need to excavate certain areas of the pipeline to repair sections of the pipeline. All excavation will take place within a 10-foot perimeter of previous excavation for the pipeline. This pipeline is a repurposed oil pipeline from the 1950s and has been excavated in the past. Excavation of the pipeline will be done with a mini-excavator or with hand crews in the event that the pipeline is not accessible by trail network. The majority of the pipeline at Hungry Valley SVRA is on or within approximately 15 feet of a trail or road for access. All excavated soil will be properly backfilled and restored to original condition. If any vegetation or seed is used to revegetate the area, it will only be native plants currently found within the disturbed area. All trash and construction debris will be removed and properly disposed of. For a more detailed project description contact Hungry Valley SVRA office.
