Project Location:
31130 Corral Hollow Road, approximately two miles south of Tracy. See attached Vicinity Map.
Project Justification:
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill is a single closed solid waste management unit, designated Class III, for non-hazardous municipal solid waste and inert waste. Due to potential contamination of the groundwater around monitoring well MW-12, this additional groundwater monitoring well is being installed to test the water quality downgradient of this existing well to see the potential extent of the contamination.
Scope of Work:
The project will consist of:
1. Drilling, developing, and constructing one (1) groundwater monitoring well.
2. Utilizing the sonic drilling method to drill the well.
Environmental Setting:
In these portions of the San Joaquin County, land usage is primarily agricultural with residential areas.
There are many large trees adjacent to the project area. Nesting and migratory birds, protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, may nest within these trees. Furthermore, the Swainson’s Hawk, a raptor species of concern within the State of California and listed as threatened may nest adjacent to or within the project area. A pre-construction survey for nesting Swainson’s Hawks and other migratory birds is recommended if construction is scheduled to occur from February 15th to September 1st.
Beneficiaries:
The public will see increased safety from improved monitoring of groundwater in the areas surrounding the landfill. Overall, it will aide in the measurement of groundwater levels and water quality within the project area.
