Document Description
The Chinquapin Hillslope Fuels Reduction Project will treat approximately 79.5 acres of hazardous vegetation within the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Defense Zone. Treatments include hand thinning, mechanical thinning, mastication, chipping (offsite only), and pile burning to reduce ladder fuels, improve forest health, and increase community wildfire resilience. The project supports safe evacuation routes and is being implemented in partnership with North Tahoe Fire Protection District. Treatments will occur on privately owned parcels with landowner consent and oversight by a California Registered Professional Forester (RPF #3226).

This project involves minor alterations to vegetation. It does not involve the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees. All treatments are intended to reduce wildfire risk, protect natural resources, and enhance ecosystem function. The project complies with the California Forest Practice Rules, the Lahontan Water Board’s Timber Waiver (Category 1), and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's Code of Ordinances. Archaeological and biological surveys will be completed prior to implementation, and limited operating periods will be observed to avoid impacts to nesting birds and sensitive wildlife where required.
