Document Description
This project will reintroduce grazing to 20 acres of coastal grassland habitat within Sonoma Coast State Park to reduce fuel accumulation and enhance coastal grassland habitat. This proposed high-intensity, short-duration grazing will reduce both coyote brush and grass thatch.
The project will consist of two (2) treatments, each lasting 3 to 6 weeks and occurring 9 to 12 months apart. Existing trails will be used to transport animals and equipment. Impacts to visitor’s use of trails are expected to occur only while animals are being brought to and from the project site.
Temporary electric fencing and guardian animals will be used to keep animals within the proposed project area. Water will be brought in from off site and informational signage will be posted at trailheads.
