Document Description
The project involves the permanent abandonment of three existing potable water service connections, Service Connection No. 1 (Alessandro/Barton), No. 2 (Westgate at Cactus Avenue), and No. 3 (Eastgate at Heacock Street and John F. Kennedy Drive), that currently serve the March Air Reserve Base (MARB) area. This work is being conducted in accordance with the Interagency Agreement between Eastern and Western Municipal Water Districts. The purpose of the abandonment is to consolidate and streamline potable water delivery to the MARB Area through a newly constructed intertie connection at Cactus Avenue and Riverside Avenue (Service Connection No. 6), which has sufficient capacity to meet current and future water demands for the area, including maximum day and fire flow requirements. The new connection improves system efficiency, reliability, and long-term operational coordination between agencies. The beneficiaries of the project include Western Municipal Water District (as the retail water provider), tenants and future developments within the MARB Area, and the broader community through enhanced system reliability and cost-effective infrastructure management. No ground-disturbing construction is required for the abandonment beyond routine capping and disconnection work, and all activities will take place within existing disturbed utility corridors. The project will not result in significant environmental impacts.
