Document Description
Project Location:
Alpine Avenue: Two (2) speed cushions from Wisconsin Avenue to Wallace Avenue; Alpine Avenue: Two (2) speed cushions from Wallace Avenue to Kirk Street; Benedict Drive: Three (3) speed cushions from Woodbridge Road to Riverwood Drive; Priest Road: Two (2) speed cushions from Watters Road to Galin Road; Tinnin Road: Four (4) speed cushions south of Woodward Avenue; Windwood Drive: Three (3) speed cushions from Woodbridge Road to West Willow Wood Circle. See attached Vicinity Maps.
Project Justification:
These speed cushions are criteria driven, initiated based on community and resident approval and varying factors like street speed and traffic volume.
Scope of Work:
The project will consist of the construction of sixteen (16) speed cushions in six (6) locations. The Scope of Work includes the following duties:
1. Installing sixteen (16) speed cushions in six (6) locations.
2. Installing traffic stripes and pavement markings.
3. Providing Traffic Control.
4. Maintaining a minimum of one paved traffic lane, not less than 10 feet in width, always open.
Environmental Setting:
In these portions of the San Joaquin County, land usage is primarily residential.
There are many large trees adjacent to the project area. Nesting and migratory birds, protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, may nest within these trees. Furthermore, the Swainson’s Hawk, a raptor species of concern within the State of California and listed as threatened may nest adjacent to or within the project area. A pre-construction survey for nesting Swainson’s Hawks and other migratory birds is recommended if construction is scheduled to occur from February 15th to September 1st.
Beneficiaries:
The public will see increased safety and fewer conflicts between cars and pedestrians with these speed cushions. Overall, there will be reduced vehicle speed concerns and more reliability within the project area.
