Document Description
This project focuses on establishing wildlife habitat around an existing stock pond in an alfalfa field on a farm. There will be a riparian planting zone of approximately 1.5 acres with native grasses and trees/shrubs. Trees and shrubs will be planted in clusters and in low-lying areas, on small berms. These desirable, native plants will be replacing a polyculure of invasive annual weeds, and will provide food, cover, and structural diversity to an underutilized habitat element (the pond). This project will add diversity and resiliency to a corner of the farm that currently offers little in the way of wildlife habitat most of the year. Deep rooted perennials will grow throughout the dry season and should thrive during drought, offering critical habitat when it's most needed.
