Document Description
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), pursuant to authority granted under California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 22, Division 4.5, Chapter 20, Sec. 66270.61, has issued an Emergency Permit to the California State University, Northridge (EPA ID# CAT080033392) to treat hazardous waste through a controlled reaction with a chemical solution. Specifically, eight (8) 2-liter containers and one (1) 1-liter container of Diethylene Glycol Dimethyl Ether; seven (7) 4-liter containers and one (1) 500-milliliter (mL) container of 1,4 Dioxane; twenty-one (21) 1-liter containers of 1,2 Dimethoxyethane; sixteen (16) 4-liter containers, twenty-two (22) 1-liter containers, five (5) 500-mL containers, and two (2) 100-mL containers of Tetrahydrofuran; two (2) 4-liter containers and one (1) 1-liter container of Ethyl Ether; one (1) 4-liter container, three (3) 500-mL containers, one (1) 400-mL container, and one (1) 200-mL container of Butyl Vinyl Ether; one (1) 200-mL container of Methyl tert Butyl Ether; one (1) 100-mL container of Acetaldehyde; one (1) 4-liter container of 2-Methoxyethyl Ether; one (1) 400-mL container of Vinyl Acetate; one (1) 4-liter container of Styrene; and one (1) 50-gram container and one (1) 100-gram container of Sodium Amide must be stabilized prior to transport to an authorized hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility. These chemicals are currently being stored at the California State University, Northridge located at 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, California 91330-8284. DTSC has determined as a safety precaution to prevent an accident or severe injury, an Emergency Permit should be issued to chemically stabilize the hazardous waste by Clean Harbors Environmental Services (Clean Harbors) prior to storage and eventual transportation off-site.
