Document Description
The El Dorado Irrigation District (District) proposes to make upgrades to the existing St. Andrews lift station (SALS). The SALS is located on District Property along Tam O'Shanter Drive north of the intersection with Brookline Circle in El Dorado Hills. The SALS transports wastewater for approximately 5,000 equivalent dwelling units. The proposed upgrades include repairing a leak at an above-grade bypass connection on the forcemain header, replacing a faulty isolation valve, installing a flow meter on above-grade forcemain discharge header, and removal and/or replacement of a 20-inch isolation valve on the forcemain that has failed.
In order to drain the system and maintain service during the upgrades, a temporary bypass from the SALS wet well to an existing 20-inch forcemain will be installed. The activities required to install the bypass and facilitate the upgrades include removal of a hazard tree adjacent to the forcemain, excavation of subgrade soil to access the forcemain, installation of a concrete thrust wall to stabilize the forcemain to allow removal and/or replacement of the 20-inch isolation valve, installation of a hot tap to connect the 8-inch sewer bypass line to the forcemain, and installation of a temporary line stop to prevent return flow from the bypass flowing back to the SALS. All excavated areas will be backfilled and restored to pre-construction grade. Bypass pumping will be performed using a trailer mounted generator and pump. Bypass pumping is anticipated to occur primarily during daylight hours, but may be required up to 24 hours a day at times during the repairs, which are expected to be complete within 3-5 days.
Equipment that will be used will include an excavator, backhoe, mini-excavator, semi-trucks, and trailer mounted generator and bypass pumping equipment. Work will be completed by District staff with assistance from two contractors. Project activities will not impact public sewer services. Any construction debris that is generated as a result of the upgrades will be removed from the area and will be disposed of in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. All areas where ground disturbance occurs will be stabilized using appropriate best management practices for erosion control.
