Document Description
The project consists of upgrading four miles of the 92kV CA transmission line from Ave 42 Substation to Northview Sub, and the substations, to increase transmission capacity > 1,165 MVA. The transmission line’s wood poles will be removed and replaced with redesigned and reconstructed ones to accommodate new conductor. Existing steel structures will remain and be reused. One new steel pole will be needed along with two additional ones for future installation. The new steel poles and foundations will be located at the NWC of Ave 40 and Burr St. The project will only upgrade the CA (sgl-circuit) line and the OPGW. The existing conductors and hardware for the CE line and distribution circuits will be reused. The upgrade will use 900 “Canary” kcmil ACSS/TW high temperature HS285 conductor. The substation upgrades consist of replacing sgl 795 MCM AAC conductor with dbl 1033 MCM AAC conductors at the Ave 42 Sub and replacing twelve sgl-circuit 95 MCM AAC conductors with dbl-circuit 1033 MCM AAC conductors and six 1,200A disconnect switches with six 2,000A disconnect switches at the Northview Sub. The substations’ protective relays will also be upgraded. Work will be done within the substation’s footprint. Project’s anticipated in-service date: April 2026.
