Document Description
This project involves upgrading the substation to support two independent 34.5kV sources. Work includes installing two 34.5kV, 1200A vacuum breakers with protection relays (311L, 311C, and 751A), six single-phase PTs on the 34.5kV bus and sub-transmission lines (BP and RW), and four 34.5kV-1200A gang-operated disconnect switches, two of which include grounding switches. The project also requires new concrete foundations, steel structures, AC and DC panels, a battery charger, a battery bank, conduit, grounding. This project requires the replacement of a circuit breaker at Brawley Diesel (BPO breaker) and protection work at Rockwood and Brawley Diesel Substations. This project is essential to improve the reliability and resiliency of the substation by enabling it to be powered by two independent sources. In the event of a failure of one source, the second source will maintain power to the substation, preventing service interruptions. By completing this project, the frequency and duration of blackouts affecting the area will be significantly reduced. These improvements will enhance system reliability, increase operational flexibility, and support the long-term stability of the electrical network serving Westmorland and surrounding areas. The Brawley Diesel Substation is located at 4233 Dogwood Rd, Brawley, CA 92227 (32° 58' 4.57" N, 115° 32' 6.22" W) and the Rockwood Substation is located at SWC of Dogwood Rd & Mead Rd, Brawley, CA (32°57'19.9"N 115°32'07.8"W).
