The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is proposing to lease approximately four buildings to provide temporary housing to students from throughout California who will be attending training in Atwater. Approximately, 46,550 sf of housing, 8,400 sf of multi-purpose building, and 15,874 sf of cafeteria space will be leased within existing buildings. The lease will be utilized for up to 80 students on a temporary basis while they are attending training. No tenant improvements are required.

This project fits under Class 1, Section 15301, Existing Facilities. Class 1 projects consist of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. The project consists of entering into a new lease for office space within an existing building. Field review by CAL FIRE staff confirmed that no exceptions apply that would preclude the use of a notice of exemption for this project. The Department has concluded that no significant environmental impact would occur to aesthetics, agriculture and forestland/timberland, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, energy, geology and soils, greenhouse gas emissions, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology and water quality, land use planning, mineral resources, noise, populations and housing, public services, recreation, transportation/ traffic, utilities and service systems, or to wildfire. Documentation of the environmental review completed by the Department is kept on file at 1131 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
