Document Description
Remove and replace portions of a dilapidated fence located along the northern boundary of Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, between the park and the adjacent neighborhood of Tahoma and remove and/or rehabilitate a total of nine (9) user-created trails near the fence line to improve visitor experience, enhance wildlife movement corridors, and improve visitor access into the park. Work will: • Use hand crews to remove approx. 1.3 miles of old fencing entirely and load fence debris in dump trucks for disposal offsite; • Install approx. 0.25 miles of new fence along 1st Avenue where the Sugar Pine maintenance yard and offices are located adjacent to the neighborhood: o Where possible, use post holes from the old fence posts to install new posts or excavate a 6-in. wide x 6-in. long x 24-in. deep hole for each new post; o Install 6-in. x 6-in. posts spaced approx. every 5 to 7 feet apart; connect posts on upper portion with two 2-in. x 6-in. boards and connect posts on the lower portion with two 2-in. x 4-in. boards. Secure wire fencing with horizontal boards. • Remove five (5) user-created trails into the park, located at the end of every street in the adjacent neighborhood: o Mulch bare ground with native material, leaving sufficient openings in the mulch to allow revegetation; o Recontour and deposit duff over all rehabilitated areas to prevent future erosion and resource damage; o Place brush and dead trees along decommissioned routes; and o Install signage to discourage use and off trail travel. • Adopt the remaining four (4) user-created trails, located at the termination of 4th, 6th, and 9th Avenue(s), into the park’s trail network and maintain under state park standards. o Improve drainage by regrading to match surrounding topography; o Redistribute topsoil on finished surfaces and scatter organic material over the finished work area; and o Install signage at the end of each avenue directing users to the new adopted access routes within the park.
