Document Description
This proposed Project involves the expansion of the Lynx Cat Mountain Quarry. Currently the Lynx Cat Mountain Quarry operates at a capacity of 48.5 acres, this Project would increase the quarry operation by 193.5 acres. The Project will include construction of perimeter fencing; placement of 3’-4’ earthen berm directly within the fence; grubbing, grading and clearing of the fenced area, use of heavy machinery for mining operations, mining for granite, stockpiling of mined material, and construction of supporting facilities for quarry activities. The Project will result in impacts to 193.5 acres of desert tortoise (Gopherus agassazii) and Mohave ground squirrel (Xerospermophilus mohavensis) habitat; the Project will permanently remove 193.5 acres of desert tortoise and Mohave ground squirrel habitat. The project is expected to result in incidental take of desert tortoise and Mohave ground squirrel, which are designated as an endangered and threatened species, respectively, under the California Endangered Species Act. The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
