Document Description
To remove and replace the existing 16-inch steel pipe (DSID 22717), air release valve, flap gate, pump, and pump pad, and remove an 18-inch unpermitted steel pipe (DSID 24023) attached to the same pump. The 16-inch pipe and the pump were permitted under Board Permit No. 3644 which was issued in 1961. The existing pipe and all associated appurtenances within the levee embankment will be completely removed and replaced in-kind with new materials, from the existing pump to the waterside flap gate. The new pipe will be a 3/8-inch thick, 16-inch diameter welded steel pipe, which will be epoxy coated or tar wrapped and placed with the minimum invert elevation above the 1957 Design Water Surface Elevation (DWSE; 16.8 feet NAVD88), which is approximately six feet below the existing levee crown. An air-release valve will be installed on the waterside levee crest hinge point. The pipe will be exposed on the landside and waterside levee slopes for maintenance purposes. Removal of the existing pipes will require excavation into the levee embankment to a depth approximately two feet below DWSE. The excavation and backfilling of the area around and above the pipes shall meet the California Code of Regulations, Title 23, Waters, Division 1 (Title 23) standards. The removed pipes will be disposed of offsite.
