Document Description
The proposed Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) 2025 Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) updates and supersedes the prior 2006 LRDP approved by the University in July 2007. The 2025 LRDP slightly lowers the LBNL on-campus adjusted daily population projection from 4,650 in the 2006 LRDP to 4,500; in part, this reduction accounts for changing work patterns among LBNL staff and affiliates. The 2025 LRDP maintains the same total developed space projection as the 2006 LRDP (2.42 million gross square feet) and facilitates modernization of campus facilities. The 2025 LRDP also makes minor modifications to land use designations, including enlarging the Perimeter Open Space zone that encompasses the developed portion of the LBNL campus. The 2025 LRDP provides an expanded set of campus development-related principles, goals, and strategies to refine and build on the general planning concepts promoted in the 2006 LRDP. This policy framework centers around themes of research facility and infrastructure modernization, environmental and resource stewardship, and realization of a more welcoming and inclusive campus.
