Document Description
The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) would provide funding to the Butte County Resource Conservation District for the Colby Mountain Recreation Project - Phase 2 (Project). The Project would bring a multi-benefit recreation project to public lands that would improve public access, replace lost recreation due to wildfire, and strengthen the local rural economy. The Project would begin at the Jonesville Snow Park trailhead on Humboldt Road in Butte County (near the communities of Butte Meadows and Jonesville) and would extend into Tehama County. Grant funding would be used to (1) construct 4.3 miles of Home Trail, a new single track multi-use, non-motorized trail that supports adaptive mountain biking use; (2) develop a new trailhead at 27N06/27N36 that provides new recreation access to multiple trails; (3) replace a damaged trail bridge at the Snow Park trailhead; and (4) develop and install kiosk and signage at the Snow Park trailhead.
Butte County Resource Conservation District evaluated the Project in an Initial Study and Negative Declaration, which was certified on May 16, 2024. The SNC has reviewed the Initial Study and Negative Declaration and has independently determined that the project would not result in significant adverse environmental impacts. All work will be performed in compliance with the Butte County Resource Conservation District’s Initial Study and Negative Declaration.
