Document Description
The Project would provide flood protection for residents, businesses, and infrastructure along a 9-mile length of Coyote Creek during a 20-year flood event. The Project consists of a series of flood risk reduction improvements, including floodwalls, passive barriers, and berms along Coyote Creek, as well as modifications to Charcot Avenue Bridge and backflow prevention improvements to the City’s municipal storm sewer system.
After certifying the Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR), Valley Water determined that changes in design were necessary to meet project flood protection objectives, provide maintenance access to berms and floodwalls, more effectively drain stormwater away from floodwalls, and prevent floodwaters from backflowing into the City’s stormwater drainage system. Changes include a new temporary sandbag berm in Reach 4, new berms and a shortened floodwall alignment at two locations in Reach 6 where previously only floodwalls were proposed, a new staging area in Reach 7, and new and additional stormwater drainage and backflow prevention features at numerous locations along Coyote Creek. Valley Water has prepared the First Addendum to the Project’s Final EIR, which describes the changes to the previously approved Project and analyzes their environmental effects.
