Document Description
The proposed athletic field would include a synthetic turf sports field and all-weather track to serve the Alameda High School sports program. The existing facility at Thompson Field is undersized and cannot be brought up to standards based on property limitations. Therefore, the District proposes to locate the athletic field on the existing temporary campus site after Wood MS and Otis ES new construction projects are completed. The new athletic field is proposed to be located at 1801 Sandcreek Way at the site of the former Lum Elementary school and current temporary campus. The facility would include existing portable buildings that would be reconfigured as locker rooms. Restroom facilities would be provided for teams and spectators. Home and away bleacher seating could be located on either side of the field, but bleachers may be adjusted to one side or the other to reduce potential impacts. Storage for equipment would be provided. Site access would generally be via the new access roadway adjacent to Rittler Park. The District anticipates that the athletic field would have a capacity for 1,500 attendees with up to 950 attendees expected for typical football games and events. Graduation could include up to 1,500 attendees and would occur one time per year in the morning. The Island Bowl event would occur every other year and include up to 1,500 attendees. The athletic field would have lighting for evening events and games. It is anticipated that six light poles would be installed and utilize Musco LED lighting to minimize light spill onto adjacent properties. Lighting would only be turned on during school events and would not be used after 10:00 p.m.
