Document Description
The Isla is Creek Bridge is on Third Street over the Isla is Creek channel in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood. The project would demolish and replace the existing Isla is Creek Bridge, including all electrical equipment and drive machinery needed to open the existing drawbridge. The proposed replacement bridge would meet current structural and seismic standards and would be resilient to predicted
sea-level-rise impacts up to the year 2100. The proposed bridge design would be a 115-foot-long, 105-footwide,single-span precast/prestressed concrete adjacent box beams bridge. The bridge would accommodate a center 24-foot-wide dedicated light rail trackway, two 11-foot-wide travel lanes in each direction, a 12-footwide
Class I pedestrian path on the eastern side of the bridge, and a 17-foot-wide Class I shared pedestrian/bicycle path on the western side of the bridge.
Although project construction is anticipated to extend for a total duration of approximately24 months, publicaccess to the bridge (e.g., use· of the existing light rail and access for vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic)
would continue for the first five months during the early phases of construction. There would be no access for vehicles, light rail, or pedestrians to the project area once the bridge is closed to the public. Following construction of the new-bridge, pedestri~·n access and vehicular traffic are expected to resume earlier than
the full 24-month duration, with vehicle traffic potentially reopening as soon as 15 months after bridge closure, even while project close-out and early operations-related activities are still underway. Light rail operations are anticipated to require additional activities prior to reopening and therefore, are anticipated to
resume 19 months after bridge closure. The SFMTA, in coordination with San Francisco Public Works, would develop a comprehensive community engagement and mobility strategy for the bridge closure. The Mobility
Strategy would address the rerouting plans around the lslais Creek Bridge and T-Third (and 19-Polk bus, as applicable) bridge plans and would also identify ways to reduce effects to the mobility networks for all users (e.g., private vehicles, buses, people walking and bicycling).
