                Document Description

CAL FIRE would provide funding to the National Forest Foundation to treat infestations and conduct removal of diseased/infested trees to reduce tree mortality of high-value oaks from the invasive goldspotted oak borer (Agrilus auroguttatus) (GSOB) and suppress a recently detected satellite infestation from further spread to adjacent oak woodlands on National Forest lands. These treatments will reduce wildfire risks to local resources and community members, promote native plant and wildlife species, and improve forest resiliency.

CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction, reforestation, & habitat restoration projects undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the NEPA, if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed in its entirety under two NEPA documents: 1) Gold Spotted Oak Borer Management Project Decision Memo signed on 10/31/22; and 2) El Cariso to Long Canyon GSOB Management Decision Memo signed on 3/27/19.
