Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Streambed Alteration Agreement (EPIMS-SHA-60793-R1), pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602, the project Applicant, City of Shasta Lake, as represented by William Bond. The project is limited to replacement of the existing Cascade Boulevard bridge over Moody Creek with a new bridge. The new bridge will be a single span pre-cast pre-stressed concrete voided slab bridge. It will be 52 feet in length and 40 feet wide and raised approximately 3 feet to meet American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials stopping sight distance requirements and improved hydraulic performance and minimize flooding. The replacement structure will be slightly longer and wider than the existing structure with two 12-foot travel lanes and two 6-foot bike lanes. The new abutment foundations will involve excavations up to 20-feet deep in the banks of Moody Creek. The abutments will be supported on spread footing foundations placed below the scour elevation OR cast-in drilled-hole piles with rock sockets and involve placement of cast-in-place concrete abutments. There will be an onsite temporary traffic detour maintaining two 12- foot lanes of traffic during construction, allowing bridge demolition and replacement to be completed in one season. The temporary detour will be constructed upstream of the existing bridge with culverts placed in the streambed to maintain flow that may occur during construction and pavement over Class 2 Aggregate base material. Existing utilities to be temporarily relocated and attached to the new bridge include a sewer line, gas line, and a water line. Demolition of the existing bridge will be performed by the contractor, and all concrete, asphalt, and other debris will be removed from the project site and properly disposed of by the contractor. The project will result in a net increase of beneficial channel function because the center pier from the existing bridge will be removed. Compensatory mitigation will be satisfied through the purchase of appropriate credits at Stillwater Plains Mitigation Bank.
