Document Description
The Applicant proposes operating granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment system for Volatile Organic Chemical (VOCs) removal which was added to the existing Saugus Wells 1&2 at Saugus Perchlorate Treatment Plant (SPTF). The effluent from the GAC vessels will receive chloramination treatment at the Six Wells Disinfection Facility (onsite), which also provides precautionary disinfection for Well Q2 and T&U Treatment Facilities. The SPTF includes two bag filter trains (four bag filter units total), one existing IX treatment train (two IX vessels in total, operated in lead-lag configuration), and one GAC treatment train (two GAC vessels total, operated in parallel configuration). The Six Wells Disinfection Facility includes a sodium hypochlorite generation and storage system, liquid ammonium sulfate (LAS) storages, and additional chemical feed systems installed for both sodium hypochlorite and LAS. All treatment facilities are equipped the associated electrical equipment, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, and water quality measuring equipment.
