Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) issued this Restoration Management Permit (RMP) pursuant to section 1670 of the Fish and Game Code to the Yurok Tribe. This Project is expected to improve hydrologic function and floodplain connectivity in the mainstem Scott River by lowering the floodplain, constructing a terrace and roughened channel, using existing wood features to increase complexity, and improving the confluence of Sugar Creek. The Project is expected to replace the existing diversion infrastructure with a new structure that will improve the stability of the point of diversion while increasing the available water instream for fish passage of all life stages of salmonids during low flow conditions. The Project may include a pilot hyporheic hydraulic control structure, to assess subsurface conditions and potential benefits of improving hydrological function in historic mining tailings. CDFW has determined that the Project is a Qualifying Restoration Project pursuant to section 1671(d)(1) of the Fish and Game Code, and the Project is expected to result in a substantial, cumulative benefit to native fish, wildlife, plants, or their habitat, or any combination thereof.
