Document Description
This proposed project involved the replacement of the existing Howe Through Truss steel and concrete Butte City Bridge and connecting viaduct with a new bridge and viaduct. The project also included pile driving, replace guardrails, contour the roadway slope to match the new shoulders and realigned driveway, construct temporary work platforms and demolish existing wooden fenders to perform bridge replacement work. The Project resulted in impacts to 2.762 acres of Central Valley spring-run Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) and Sacramento winter-run Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) habitat including temporary impacts to 0.83 acres; the Project will permanently remove 1.932 acres of Central Valley spring-run and Sacramento winter-run Chinook salmon habitat. The project likely resulted in incidental take of Central Valley spring-run Chinook salmon, which is designated as a threatened species, and Sacramento winter-run Chinook salmon, which is designated as an endangered species, under the California Endangered Species Act. The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may have occurred as a result of Project implementation.
