Document Description
Located along the western boundary of Santa Clara County, the West Santa Clara Landscape Resiliency Project (WSCLRP) covers approximately 143,375 acres, from the wildland-urban interface (WUI) of the Santa Clara Valley and southern Bay Area west into the Santa Cruz Mountains. The proposed treatment types are ecological restoration, WUI fuel reduction treatments, and fuel breaks, and the proposed treatment activities are prescribed burning, manual treatments, mechanical treatments, targeted herbicide application, and prescribed herbivory. Treatment types and activities are consistent with those evaluated in the CalVTP Program EIR. Treatments would be phased and maintained over time based on availability of funding, resources, community outreach opportunities, and partner collaboration.
This project serves to facilitate future landscape-scale wildfire resilience treatments across a variety of settings and land ownership types (e.g., landscape-scale treatments on public land in primarily wildland conditions, small-scale treatments conducted adjacent to urban homes that combine vegetation management efforts with defensible space treatments). This work aims to mitigate wildfire risk, increasing community and ecological wildfire resiliency and enhancing biological diversity.
A Project-Specific Analysis and Addendum (PSA/Addendum) has been prepared for the project as a later activity covered by the California Vegetation Treatment Project (CalVTP) Program Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The proposed treatment types and the treatment activities are consistent with those evaluated in the CalVTP Program EIR. The attached material includes a Notice of Determination that the proposed project is within the scope of the CalVTP PEIR.

The project area consists of a discontinuous collection of public and private parcels roughly bound by San Mateo County to the north, major thoroughfares that run to the east (from north to south: Foothill Expressway, State Route [SR] 85, and SR 101), the intersection of SR 101 and SR 129 to the south, and San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties to the west, primarily along Skyline Boulevard (SR 35) and Summit Road.
