Document Description
The Project would include a 38—acre expansion of the Pixley Recharge Basin from 160 to 198 acres. The Project would utilize excess surface water from the Friant Division of the Central Valley Project for groundwater recharge. Any surface water to be diverted to the recharge basin during operations would include imported surface water, either through purchase, contract, or transfer. The Pixley Irrigation District Recharge Basin is currently named the Deer Creek Basin, and this Project is identified as the Deer Creek Basin Expansion Project.
The proposed groundwater recharge basin expansion would be composed of cells totaling 38 acres which would be adjacent to the existing 160—acre basin. Water would be diverted from the existing canal which runs adjacent to the property and parallel to Highway 99. Vehicular access to the Project would be available on Avenue 72 where a network of unpaved private roads on the property provides full access to the recharge basin. During construction, workers would utilize existing facility parking areas and/or temporary construction staging areas for parking vehicles and equipment. During operation of the Project, maintenance vehicles would be required to come approximately three times a week for required maintenance. However, the Project would not require any permanent, onsite employees during operation. No additional utilities or electrical service would be required as a part of the Project
