Document Description
BOE-79 (Project) is a later activity undertaken pursuant to the Sidewalk Repair Program (SRP) as a project eligible for credit under the Willits Settlement (Mark Willits, et al. v. City of Los Angeles [United States District Court Case No. CV10-05782 CBM (RZX)]) and subject to Los Angeles Municipal Code 62.104.1. The Project encompasses sidewalk reconstruction, cross-slope adjustments, curb and gutter repairs, and installation of accessible curb ramps across 160 addresses CD 8. Based on site-specific arborists evaluations, severe tree root uplift has disrupted sidewalk across the project locations. Alternative tree retention options (such as root pruning or sidewalk ramping) were determined infeasible because root pruning would compromise structural tree stability and public safety. Consequently, the Project includes Board of Public Works (BPW) approval for the removal of six street trees (2 Jacarandas, 3 Camphor, 1 Chinese Elm). BOE-79 mandates compliance with the SRP Street Tree Policy and Mandatory Project Design Features Policy.
