Document Description
The M & J Muni Forward Lines Phase 1 Project encompasses both the M Ocean View Transit and Safety Project and J Church Safety and Accessibility Project [San Jose Avenue project segment]. The M Ocean View Transit and Safety Project portion includes adding transit lanes in both directions on San Jose Avenue, bike lanes in both directions on 19th Avenue to accommodate existing bike facilities adjacent to the M train network, stop spacing changes on 19th Avenue and San Jose Avenue, five transit boarding islands, four wheelchair-accessible transit boarding islands, six transit bulbs, new traffic signals with transit priority at two intersections, new stop signs at two intersections, five pedestrian bulbs, two pedestrian refuge islands, one sidewalk extension, exhibition driving deterrent treatments, spot-treatment signal upgrades and other minor scope items as necessary. The J Church Safety and Accessibility Project (San Jose Avenue project segment) portion includes adding transit lanes in both directions on San Jose Avenue between Ocean Avenue and Cotter Street, three wheelchair-accessible transit boarding islands, and one new transit boarding island. This project portion also includes pedestrian safety improvements, such as pedestrian bulbs, traffic calming devices, rapid flashing beacons and daylighting. Parking spaces would be restored on San Jose Avenue at Santa Ynez Avenue and on San Jose Avenue at Havelock Street.
